Community Engagement

Kelli Owen, our National Community Engagement Coordinator, has travelled around the country over the last three years to meet with patients and communities. Scroll through the photos above to see just some of her adventures and engagement.

The Cultural Bias Recommendations, as seen in the Policy Brief, have been translated for Community as well.

Clinical Engagement

Cinical Engagement

The NIKTT has consistently engaged with clinical professionals already involved in the Taskforce and others interested in transplantation equity. We have presented abstracts and talks at conferences throughout the last three years, as well as hosting informational booths.

Policy Engagement

Policy Engagement

The NIKTT has routinely engaged with political parties where appropriate, and the NIKTT's Kelli Owen attended the 2022 Straight Talk Summit in Canberra.

Most recently, the NIKTT has:

  • Provided consultation feedback to the National Strategy for Organ Donation, Transplantation, and Retrieval

  • Engaged in planning workshops with the ODTR team to provide guidance on areas of the strategy relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kidney transplantation

  • Invited Health and Indigenous Affairs Ministers to engage with our work in supporting the Gathering's Position Statement and the recommendations and actions contained therein

The National Indigenous Kidney Transplantation Taskforce is funded by the Commonwealth, represented by the Department of Health, in contract with the Transplantation Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), housed within Australia and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplant Registry (ANZDATA). The NIKTT's main operations take place on Kaurna Country.
