Welcome to Kaurna Yarta
About Kaurna Land
The Kaurna Miyurna are the traditional custodians of the Adelaide Plains and foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges in South Australia. Their ancestral lands, the Kaurna Yarta Nation, extend from Cape Jervis in the south to Crystal Brook in the north, lying between the Mount Lofty Ranges and St Vincent Gulf.1
Kaurna Miyurna have lived on and taken care of this land for over 65,000 years. This land was invaded and colonised by the British in 1836, where they established "Adelaide" at Tarntanya. This marked the beginning of the invasion of Kaurna land and the dispossession of Kaurna Miyurna from their traditional country.
Kaurna Warra is the language of Kaurna Miyurna.
